Lorace James Rooks, 85, of Rocky Point passed peacefully on Tuesday morning, September 13, 2011 at his home.

He was born September 5, 1926 in Pender County, the son of the late Arthur and Estelle Rooks.

Lorace is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pearl Chadwick Rooks; daughters, Portia Ann Muse (Larry) of Burgaw and Victoria Jean Oakes (Eddie) of Reidsville; son, Lorace James "Jimmy" Rooks (Susan) of Rocky Point; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Douglas of Leland, Gray Moore and Hilda Tompkins both of Rocky Point and many nieces and nephews.

Lorace was a devoted husband and loving daddy, granddaddy, brother and friend. Farming and gardening were high on Lorace's must do list. Always looking on the bright side of life, Lorace maintained a positive attitude throughout his life. He instilled in his children the value of hard work and Christian ethics, teaching them the beauty of nature and the joy of music, song, laughter and love. His legacy of hope will always remain in our hearts.

Funeral service will be at 12 noon on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at Riley's Creek Baptist Church with The Rev. Jim Herchenhahn and The Rev. Melvin Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Riley's Creek Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. until hour of the service
