Lottie Jo
Skinner
Jan 13, 1944 — May 27, 2014
Lottie Jo Holland Skinner of Wilmington passed gently from her earthly life on May 27, 2014 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter.
She was born January 14, 1944 to the late William Braxton and Olivia Drew Holland. She was also preceded in death by her nephew, Daniel Wray Holland, of Rogers, Arkansas. Lottie Jo grew up in the Penderlea Community of Pender County and graduated from Penderlea High School in 1962. On July 28, 1963 Lottie Jo and Leon Skinner were married and moved to Raleigh where Lottie Jo continued her education, graduating from Peace College in 1964. She worked at CP&L in Raleigh until the birth of their daughter, Lisa. Shortly thereafter, the family returned to Pender County, living in Penderlea and Topsail Beach. In 1992, they settled in Wilmington.
Lottie Jo served her family as the heart of her home as wife, mother, grandmother and superb homemaker. She loved and served the Lord and was a dedicated worker all her life in each church in which she was a member. Active for numerous years in Presbytery, Lottie Jo served as a deacon, as an elder, a Stephen minister, in leadership for Bible Study Fellowship and many other roles in church life. Lottie Jo lived and gave freely of her many talents as she loved to garden, cultivate flowers, preserve vegetables, cook and entertain, read, study the Bible, and spend time with her family and friends. In July 2013, Lottie Jo and Leon celebrated fifty years of marriage at a floating supper party surrounded by their family and friends at their home and garden. Lottie Jo loved with all of her heart; her radiant smile and Southern hospitality brightened the life of everyone she knew.
Lottie Jo is survived by her devoted husband, Leon Skinner of the home; her daughter, Lisa Skinner Lefler and grandson, Cameron Lefler, both of Wilmington; brothers William (Billy) Holland and wife Christine of Penderlea, and James (Buzzy) Holland of Wallace, and several nieces and nephews.
