Lottie Irene Thornton, 76, of Burgaw passed peacefully from her earthly life on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at her daughter's home surrounded with love by her family.

She was born June 11, 1940 in Goldsboro, the daughter of the late William Lee and Lizzie Foss Rouse. In addition to her parents, Lottie was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Lee Thornton and brother, William Rouse.

Lottie is survived by her daughters, Barbara Dixon, Kaye Woods (James), and Rose Lanier (Pete); son, Jeffery Thornton; grandchildren, Elizabeth Bradshaw, Amanda Dicicco (Ben), Jessica Hanchey (Shane), April Jobe and Douglas Jobe; seven great grandchildren; sister, Shelby Carrilo; and many extended family and friends.

Lottie was a wonderful, loving, compassionate and kind wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She balanced her life with a strong work ethic, her Christian beliefs and much love. Lottie was an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting and knitting, and was an excellent cook. She loved family gatherings and devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren, family, friends and home. Her presence in the world will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family will receive friends at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with memorial service beginning at 5:00 p.m. Pastor Curtiss Vann will conduct the service.
