Lucille Barnhill Rooks, age 79, of Kelly passed peacefully to her Heavenly home on Sunday, June 21, 2009 at her home surrounded by her devoted family.

She was born March 8, 1930 in Bladen County, the daughter of the late McL and Lessie Irene Horrell Barnhill. She was also predeceased by her grandson, Dwayne Klutz.

Surviving are her loving husband of 61 years, James Ray Rooks of the home; children, Gayle Klutz, and her husband, Richard of Leland, Darrell Rooks and his wife, Wanda of Ware Shoals, South Carolina, Ricky Rooks and his wife, Sandy, Charles Rooks, and June Rooks all of Kelly; grandchildren, Neisha Rooks, Jerry Klutz, Mandy Blackburn, Tammy Wells, Ashley Milam, and Bricklyn Rooks; great grandchildren, Hailey, Alyssa, Lysa and Gracey; and sister, Geneva Kelly of Kelly.

Mrs. Rooks was a faithful member of Haw Bluff Baptist Church.

Lucille was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Her gentle spirit and beautiful smile will always be remembered.

The family will receive friends 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, one hour prior to the funeral service at Haw Bluff Baptist Church fellowship Hall.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Haw Bluff Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Gasque and Pastor Richard Wade officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Nash Hester, Dwight Horrell, Crandell Brown, Mike Squires, Howard Higdon, John Kelly and Earl Burney.
