Luella Ward Wheeler, 96, of Burgaw passed from her earthly life to her eternal rest, May 20, 2014 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center with family praying at her bedside.

She was born April 1, 1918 in Onslow County, the daughter of the late Jerry M. and Betty Brown Ward.

Luella is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry M. and Susan Wheeler of Burgaw; granddaughter, Renee` Misenheimer (Del); great grandchildren; Emma Grace Misenheimer and Reagan Misenheimer; sister, Annie Ruth Ward Leathers of Hillsborough; and many nieces and nephews.

Luella loved her family and was a wonderful mama, grandmother, sister and friend. She loved all of God's bountiful nature and especially enjoyed working in her yard and flower beds. Luella was blessed that her sharp wit and keen intellect remained until the very end of her earthly life. What an honor it is that the lively, learned and loving Luella has lived for so many years among us.

Graveside funeral service will be 11:00 am on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Riverview Memorial Park with Mr. Mitchell Padgett and The Rev. Gerald Morton officiating.
