Lynn Caley Goodwin, 67, of Wilmington, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2020, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Lynn was born on December 15, 1952, in Wilmington to the late Caley Clarence and Mary Grace (Williamson) Goodwin.
Lynn was a lifelong Wilmington resident. He graduated from New Hanover High School in 1971 and was drafted that summer. He had a deferment because he was attending UNCW but later enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served 4 years during the Vietnam war. After coming home from the Air Force, Lynn returned to UNCW to complete his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He went to work for Corning and retired after 25 years of service. During his time at Corning, he was in the Air Force reserves, even serving overseas after being recalled to duty. Then retiring in 2005 with over 20 years of service in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.
Lynn loved the Lord and was a lifetime member at Wrightsboro Baptist Church. He loved his country and his family. Lynn spent his favorite time of year, summer, on the Cape Fear river cooking on his "redneck grill" for family and friends. He enjoyed his river cruises with lifelong friends Janice and Billy Hanna on their boat. Lynn was a devoted brother, soldier, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by many.
Lynn is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Deborah (Swinson) Goodwin; son, Wesley Oliver Goodwin and wife Hanne; daughter, Jennifer Goodwin Weisman and husband, Sam; brothers, Ed Mitchell, Doug Goodwin and wife Teresa; and his beloved grandchildren, Jacob Weisman, Riley Weisman, Jace Weisman, Jaxton Weisman, Tristan Goodwin, and Liam Goodwin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Lynn's honor to the Wrightsboro Baptist Church Youth Ministry 2736 Castle Hayne Rd. Wilmington, NC 28401.
A graveside service will be held at 1 pm Monday, January 6, 2020, at Oakdale Cemetery in Wilmington with Pastor Tommy Bridges officiating and the U.S. Air Force performing full military honors.
Friends and family may visit the family at the home of Lynn's daughter, Jennifer, at 277 Bottle Branch Drive, Burgaw, NC 28425.
