Obituary

Margaret "Ninnie" Flynn Barnes, 90, of Atkinson was granted her angel wings on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at PenDu Rest Home where she was loved and taken care of like family.

She was born November 15, 1924 in Pender County, the daughter of the late John Marshall and Geraldine Horrell Flynn. Also lovingly remembered is her husband, Grover C. Barnes, Jr. and her son, Grover Jerome "Jerry" Barnes, both who preceded Ninnie in death.

Ninnie is survived by her sons, Joey Barnes (Sue), Timothy Barnes (Tammy); daughter, Carolyn Wells; daughter-in-law, Pam Barnes; grandchildren, Chris Barnes (Lorie), Andy Barnes, Missy Daniel (Keith), Allyson Wells, Suzanne Price (Daniel), Wayne Barnes (Lori), Brittney Barnes, Nick Barrett, Lynette Reaves, and Anthony Thornton; twelve great grandchildren; and many extended family and dear friends.

Ninnie retired from the Pender County School System as a teacher's assistant at Atkinson Middle School after 23 years of service. While teaching, Ninnie also continued broadening her knowledge, earning her high school diploma at the age of 50.

Ninnie was a founding member of Atkinson Freewill Holiness Church. She taught Sunday school for over 50 years, leaving a lasting impression on the youth and community. She served her Lord and set a Christian example by the life she lived. Ninnie always had a smile on her face, a hand stretched out to help others, and a heart ready to show the love of Christ within her.

The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel followed by service at 2:00 p.m. with The Rev. Wesley Hairr officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, 16550 NC Hwy 53 E., Kelly, NC.
