Obituary

Burgaw- Margaret Garris Kenan, age 101, a gracious Southern lady passed gently from this earth to her eternal rest on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at Huntington Health Care of Burgaw.

She was born December 16, 1908, the daughter of the late Charles Haywood and Anna Clifton Garris. Also remembered are her husband, Durwood Kenan, Sr.; her sons, Durwood Kenan, Jr. and Robert C. "Bobby" Kenan; grandchildren, Teresa Tovar and Kevin Kenan, all who preceded Mrs. Kenan in death.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Ted Rogers of Burgaw who Margaret made her home with for many years; daughters-in-law, Maxine Kenan of Burgaw and Edris Kenan of Seattle, WA; grandchildren, Robert Kenan, Douglas Kenan, Joseph (Kimberly) Rogers and Kathy Bass; great grandchildren, Brett Rogers, Ian Tovar, Chantel Bass, Cody Bass, Jeremiah Pridgen, Aaron Pridgen, Kalynn Pridgen and Jeff Gore; and two great great granddaughters.

Mrs. Kenan was a member of Burgaw Presbyterian Church. For 30 years she was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Pender Memorial Hospital. Margaret was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, and friend. Her keen mind and great sense of humor remained until the very end. She spent 101 years on this earth with love, laughter, and a steadfast faith in her Lord. Margaret lived a full and blessed life, was cherished by family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 5, 2010 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with The Rev. Dr. Ray Mendenhall officiating. Burial will follow in Burgaw Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Robert Kenan, Douglas Kenan, Joseph Rogers, Ross Harrell, Bobby Carter and Ronald Piner.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home of Sylvia and Ted Rogers.
