Margaret Jean King
Ward
Jan 11, 1940 — Aug 20, 2014
Margaret Jean King Ward began her journey into heaven on August 20, 2014 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice LifeCareCenter surrounded by family and close friends.
She is survived by daughters Dawn Naughton of the home, Lisa and Chuck Hartman, of Anderson, SC, son Tim and wife Sheila Ward, sisters Charlene and husband Rudy Leister, Marlene Ives, uncle D. F. Weir, Jr and wife Deborah, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Margaret was a long standing member of Oleander United Methodist Church and was involved in the Mother Hubbard Cupboard project, choir and liaison for the prayer chain calling. She retired from Roses Department Store at Hanover Center after 17 years as a customer service manager. During Margaret's younger years she was an accomplished Basketball player at Topsail High School and a participant in the 1956 Miss Pender County Beauty Pageant. She enjoyed yelling "Bingo", crabbing, gardening, and arts and crafts. Some of her best days were a bushel of oysters from B. C. Costin, sharing them with friends and family, steamed over an open fire in the backyard.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 Friday at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 11AM, Saturday, at Oleander United Methodist Church on Oleander Drive with Reverend Jimmie R. Tatum officiating. Interment Oleander Memorial Gardens.
Please consider a memorial contribution to Oleander United Methodist Church or Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation.
Special thanks and appreciation to Faye Ballard, Debbie Taylor and Debbie Denton for their loving and caring devotion to our Mother. Dr. James McCabe deserves an enormous amount of gratitude for the personal attention and professionalism given to Margaret as well as the direct manner in which he presented her medical condition to the family and for this we will be forever grateful. God bless you and all you do and will continue to do in the future.
