She was born August 1, 1929 in Pender County, the daughter of the late James Hamilton Bordeaux, Sr. and Sue Colwell Bordeaux. Also remembered are her son, Robert Allen Highsmith; brother, James H. Bordeaux, Jr.; and sisters, Eloise B. Frasier and Marie B. Ferrell, all who preceded Margie in death.

Surviving Margie is her beloved husband of 62 years, Charles Cameron Highsmith, Sr.; children, Charles Cameron Highsmith, Jr. (Vickie) of White Lake, Sue Highsmith Helms (Don) of Southport, William "Bill" Highsmith of Fort Mill, SC; and Pamela Highsmith of Raleigh; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sisters, DeLisle. B. Stoeckel of Vero Beach, FL and Jean B. Pender (Arnold) of Chapel Hill; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Margie grew up in Burgaw where, as a young girl, she and her sisters could often be found at Dees Drug Store or watching westerns at the Owl Show. It was at the movie theater where she and Charles met as teen-agers. Margie's vocation was bookkeeper, but her avocation was golf and her family. She was a member of the Sandtrapper's League and was the women's club champion. Margie's extended family brought her great joy, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an active member of the Burgaw United Methodist Church. She shared her love freely and was, and will be, well loved by her family and many, many others.

Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 23, 2011 at Burgaw United Methodist Church with The Rev. Laura Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Burgaw Cemetery. Casketbearers will Lewis Carlton, Steve Carlton, Rick Ferrell, James Blake, Joe Price, and Hugh Highsmith.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:30 on Saturday at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
