Acevedo
June 13, 1948 – January 11, 2025
Maria Victoria Acevedo, 76, of Wilmington North Carolina passed away on January 11, 2025, surrounded by her family after a tragic accident. Maria was known for her warmth, generosity, tenacity and loving spirit.
Maria, daughter of Vicelminda and Santos Cuellar, was born on June 13, 1948. She grew up in the South Bronx in New York City and attended Lehman College in the Bronx where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. After obtaining a Master's degree and multiple post graduate certificates in early education, she dedicated her career to teaching elementary school and English as a second language to students in inner city schools of New York City. She also served in administrative roles bringing enrichment programs to students and parents in the South Bronx.
Maria is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Antonio Acevedo; their three children, Lisa Maria, Vanessa and Antonio Alexis. A devoted grandmother, Maria leaves behind 6 grandchildren who were the light of her life; Isabella, Simone, Jayson, Zoey, Abigail and Javier. She was their unwavering advocate, nurse, teacher and role model and wore the title of "Abuela" proudly.
Always on the go, Maria was a do-er with unyielding energy. She loved playing games, traveling, shopping and golf. She was a loyal friend, a devoted wife and an adoring mother and grandmother. She enriched the lives of many and will be missed deeply.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in Maria's name at chop.donordrive.com/campaign/maria.acevedo.
