Marie Mobley Davis, age 83, of Cary and formerly of Greenville and Wilmington passed peacefully from her earthly life on Monday, August 15, 2011 at Cary Health and Rehabilitation Center in Cary.

She was born March 16, 1928 and was the daughter of the late William Archie and Lula Edmondson Mobley. Also lovingly remembered is her husband, Dr. John B. Davis, Jr. who preceded Marie in death.

Marie is survived by five sons, John B. Davis IV and his wife, Janet of Cary, William Anthony Davis and his wife, Susan of Cary, Robert Christopher Davis and his wife, Melody of Pinetops, Charles Eugene Davis and his wife, Cheryl of Greenville, and David Randolph Davis and his wife, Cristina of Nurnberg, Germany; grandchildren, Stephen Davis, Brooke Davis, Will Davis, Elizabeth Davis, Robert Davis, and Alex Davis; and sister, Dot Furnish of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Marie was a true Southern lady in every way and was a wonderful helpmate to John, her beloved husband. She was instrumental in encouraging John to earn a master's degree and his doctorate. When Marie was 52 her beloved John passed away. At midlife Marie obtained her real estate license and was quite successful in the business world. Marie, mother of five boys, was a very energetic lady with a spontaneous personality. She created a home filled with joy, gladness and her excellent cooking. Her legacy of Christian faith, hard work and joy of living will be remembered by her children and grandchildren.

Graveside funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Hopewell Presbyterian Church Cemetery with The Rev. Ralph Evans officiating.

The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the graveside service.
