Marie Olive Saunders Riley, 95, passed away at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center in Wilmington, NC, on Thursday, July 16, 2026.

She was born November 5, 1930 in Montgomery County, NC to the late Samuel and Cynthia Saunders. Along with her parents, Marie is preceded in death by her husband, James Riley; and 8 siblings.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Angela Hinson (Scott Rivenbark) of Burgaw, NC and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Marie loved to be outside working in her yard and tending to her flowers and in earlier years taking care of a bountiful vegetable garden. When she wasn’t working in her yard she was known to make the best butter pecan ice cream around which she shared with all her friends and neighbors. Most of all Marie loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts can be made to a charity of one’s choice.

The family will receive friends 10:30 to 11:30 am Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel. Graveside funeral service will be 12:00 pm Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at Riverview Memorial Park with Pastor Merrell McKoy officiating.
