Obituary

Marion Fisler Hartmann, 86, of Ivanhoe passed peacefully from her earthly life on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at her home.

She was born February 28, 1927 in Sampson County one of nine children of Gilden E. and Ola Blue Fisler. Marion was preceded in death by her son, Frank Hartmann; brothers, Frank, Harry, Danny, Jack and Chester; and sisters, Anne F. Norcross, Margaret F. Roy and Jane F. Smith.

Marion is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years of Dr. Walter L. Hartmann; sons, Karl Hartmann (Irmi) of Germany and Stefan Hartmann of Ivanhoe; grandchildren, Hannah Kniewel (Michael), Aaron Hartman and Niklas Hartmann (Vera) all of Germany and Lisa Hartmann-Kuryatnikov (Anton) of Berlin, Germany; great grandchildren, Noah, Lotta and Oskar; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Fisler; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Marion graduated from High School at Harrells and Flora MacDonald College. She taught Bible at New Hanover High School in Wilmington. Marion met Walter while he was a visiting minister in Ivanhoe and they continued a four year long distance relationship. She traveled to Germany where they were married, lived and raised their three sons. After Walter retired as a professor of Theology they returned to Ivanhoe to make their home where Marion settled into her role as a faithful wife of a local rural preacher. She often played the piano at Black River Presbyterian Church where Walter conducted services. Marion was not only a lady filled with grace and charm, but a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who was generous and kind. All of her life Marion served the Lord, her family, church and community.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Black River Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Dr. Paul Layton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the church until hour of the service.
