Marion Eugene "Gene" Horne, 77, of Burgaw passed peacefully from his earthly life on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCare Center.
He was born February 10, 1937 in Duplin County and was the son of the late Leslie and Ethie Kennedy Horne. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mabel Basden Horne.
Gene is survived by his sons, Gary Horne of Castle Hayne, Thomas Frasher and Chuck Frasher both of California and Dennis Brock (Lydia) of Georgia; daughters, Sharon Hall (Phillip) of Burgaw, Sidney Driver and Lori Shelton both of California, Annette Williams and Susan Guyton both of Burgaw; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, Leland Horne and Tommy Horne; and sisters, Orelee Cottle, Geraldine Horton and Eleanor Fox.
Gene served his country with honor and valor in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
Gene loved his family and was a wonderful, caring husband, daddy, granddaddy, great granddaddy, brother and friend. Being a man of integrity, Gene always kept his word and was willing to help others. His gentle smile, quiet manner and warm heart will always be remembered and treasured.
Graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Riverview Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
