Obituary

Mark Steven Turner, 57, passed away Friday, March 14, 2014 peacefully, surrounded by family. He was born September 25, 1956 in Roanoke, VA, son of the late Donna Lou Howard and the late Gordon Ray Turner.

Mark is survived by the love of his life, wife Eve Cauley; son Zephren (wife Page); son Brent (wife Casey, grandson Bryce Steven); son Bryan (grandson Magnus); daughter Meagan (partner Ian McFadden, granddaughters Seren and Sailor); brother Gordon (wife Beverly); brother Dale (wife Ruth); beloved in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and stepmother Donna Williams.

As a film and television art director, painter, and sculptor since 1984, Mark worked on numerous films (see Mark S. Turner at imdb.com). He was a member of the Art Directors Guild (IATSE local 800), Motion Picture Set Painters and Sign-Writers (IATSE local 729), and the Television Academy. For years, he ran the Paint Department at the former DeLaurentiis Studio in Wilmington, NC. He met Eve there on a film in fall '95; they married in '97 in the Science Museum of Western Virginia's planetarium.

Mark taught all his children to cook; enjoyed their artwork, sporting events, and science projects; and shared with them his fine art, engineering, and special FX makeup skills. He was very proud of all their school graduations.
Mark courageously battled painful lung, rib, brain cancer, and more. He had two successful kidney transplants; the second was a loving donation from son Brent. Mark, in turn, was a donor. In his final months, he enjoyed the company of Eve, his grandchildren, children, and brothers. He loved them more than all the stars in the sky.

A private family tribute to Mark was held on Wrightsville Beach at sunset, March 15, 2014, ending with a beautiful full moon reflecting on the ocean waves. A large family and friends BBQ to celebrate Mark will be held in the fall.

Should friends and family desire, a memorial contribution may be sent to wife Eve to defray Mark's medical expenses. Online condolences can be left at www.quinnmcgowen.com
