Marsha Maultsby Hewett

Marsha Elaine Maultsby Hewett, 78, of Wilmington, North Carolina, went to her heavenly home in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 19, 2026.

Marsha graduated from New Hanover High School and UNCW Nursing School. She worked as a well-respected registered nurse for over 40 years at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington and later as a private-duty nurse for handicapped babies.

Marsha loved her job and was referred to as one of the most intelligent women people knew. She loved her family and her pets, Toby and Kittykitty, with all her heart. Marsha was the most caring, thoughtful, and generous woman to everyone she knew and came in contact with. She was adored by all her nieces and nephews, many of whom looked to her as a second mom. She loved to travel and was often told the term “shop ’til you drop” was started for her.

Marsha was preceded in death by her baby girl, Karen Elizabeth; her parents, Devereaux Haigh Maultsby and Alice Louise Klander Maultsby; her brother, Douglas Maultsby; her brother-in-law, Lee Hewett; and her niece, Melanie Elizabeth Phelps.

Marsha is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Ernest J. Hewett; her sons, Ernest David Hewett (Tina) and Scott Devereaux Hewett (Melissa); her granddaughter, Marissa Hewett; her grandsons, Devin Hewett and Chase Hewett; her brothers, David Maultsby (Sharon) and Preston Maultsby; her sisters, Nancy Maultsby Hewett (Lee Hewett, deceased) and Barbara Jean Ledford (Jeffrey); and many loving nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Hampstead Baptist Church, 67 Factory Road, Hampstead, NC 28443.
