Martha Jane McCorkle King, age 86, of Ivanhoe left this earthly life for her eternal rest on Tuesday, February 22, 2022.

Mrs. King was born on May 18, 1935, in Union County, North Carolina; the daughter of the late Joe Samuel and Mary Kirkley McCorkle. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Carl Roscoe King, Jr., and her sisters, Bobbie Smith and Jean McManus.

Mrs. King served others many years as a registered nurse with Cape Fear Hospital and was a member of Long Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her devoted children, Randy C. King of Wilmington, Angela K. MacDonald of Hampstead, Sherry K. Lowry and husband Jim of Moundville, MO, Rodney King and wife Cindy of Wilmington, Chris King of Ivanhoe, Scott King and wife Shannon of Hampstead and Dwayne King of Ivanhoe; grandchildren, Ashley, Jason, Joshua, Zachary, Branden, Allison, Martha and J.B.; her sister Diane Hamilton; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that love Martha dearly.

Martha was a wonderful mother and caring grandmother who loved her family with all her heart.  She enjoyed the simple things in life but her greatest joy was family.   With a big heart, Martha loved unconditionally.  She was a friend to all, a strong yet gentle presence who looked for and encouraged the best in everyone. To know Martha was to love her.  As her children stated, Martha was a "class act" as a mother and grandmother.   She will surely be missed but cherished memories of Martha will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00a.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Harrells Cemetery.
