Obituary

Martin Franklin McKoy, Sr., 82, of Burgaw died Saturday, January 2, 2010 in Burgaw.

He was born October 29, 1927 in Burgaw, the son of the late Martin Luther and Mattie McKoy. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Laura Bland McKoy, great grandson, Joshua Phillip Horrell and sisters, Margaret Rivenbark, Gladys Meeks, Helen Johnson and Doris Jackson.

Surviving are his loving family: his children, Martin Franklin "Marty" McKoy, Jr. of the home, Merle Ferguson (Bill), Terry Lee Bland, Sr. (Sheila), and Keith Hinkle (Connie) all of Burgaw, Teresa Sutton (Brad) of Surf City, Sheila Reaves (Booty) of Rocky Point and Rusty Brewer (Patricia) of Watha; 22 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; brothers, Herbert McKoy of Burgaw and Harlee McKoy of Oregon; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Martin served his country honorably in the US Navy during WW II. He was retired from J. P. Stevens with 37 years of service and never missed a day of work. Currently, at the age of 82 he was employed with Waste Industries, working at the Whitestocking Road Convenience Center. He was a member of Kings Chapel Community Church.

Martin loved his family dearly and his greatest joy in life was spending time with family. Cherished memories of Martin will always be fondly remembered.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with The Rev. Ronie Davis officiating.

Burial will follow at Red Door Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Phil Horrell, Daniel Jordan, Gilven Jordan, Shawn Rhodes, Jamie Northcott and Patrick Jordan.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home of Merle and Bill Ferguson, Stag Park Road, Burgaw.
