Marvin "Buddy" McCurdy Barnhill, Jr., 70, of Burgaw, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born in Pender County on October 31, 1950 to the late Marvin McCurdy Barnhill and Doretha Wells Barnhill.

In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by his wife Exie Harts Barnhill.

Buddy is survived by his two sisters: Mary Ivy Woodward, and Ellen Smith; two nieces: Rhonda Harvell (Stan), Holly Cutler (Dave); two nephews: Kenny Woodward, Darren Smith (Missy), along with numerous great nieces and nephews.

Marvin was called "Buddy" since he was born. He just looked and acted like a "Buddy". He grew up with his mom and two sisters plus his dad and granddad and two uncles. What else fit like "Buddy". He loved his family. He was a passionate, fierce, protector of us and of our reputation. He loved anything outdoors. Hunting, fishing and just being outdoors in general is what he loved most. He had a passion for dogs, didn't matter what kind, he just enjoyed being around them. Buddy loved and cherished his family and will be greatly missed.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 22, 2021 at Black River Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 65 Eddie L Jones Road, Ivanhoe, N.C., with Mr. Ernest Johnson officiating.
