Marvin Ray Moss, Sr., 88, of Burgaw, peacefully passed away on Monday, April 12, 2021 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.
He was born March 28, 1933 in Wilmington, one of seven children born to Julian Thomas Moss Sr. and Lillian Partin Moss.
Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Jean Ives Moss; sons, Marvin Ray Moss, Jr. (Phyllis) and Alan Moss (Rhonda); daughters, Jeanne Moss and Tammy Reagan (Robert); 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; brother, Wayne P. Moss; sister Audrey Walker; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Marvin served his country honorably in the US Navy. Following his military obligation, Marvin worked as a postal clerk in Burgaw for many years until retirement.
Most of Marvin's adult life he and Jean were faithful members of Friendly Community Baptist Church where Marvin served as deacon as well as in many other capacities. Several years ago Marvin and Jean joined and became an active part of Burgaw Baptist Church.
Marvin was a man of honor, integrity, and strong Christian Spirit. He will be remembered as a gentle, kind man; a faithful servant who loved God and his beloved family. The grandchildren were a bright and shining light in his and Jean's life. Amongst the legacies Marvin leaves are the importance of God, Family, and Country.
On Thursday, April 15, 2021 there will be a private funeral service at Burgaw Baptist Church with The Rev. Tom Canady, The Rev. Nathan Morton, and The Rev. Ben Horrell conducting the service. Everyone is welcome to attend the graveside service at 12:30 p.m. at Riverview Memorial Park. The family will visit with friends at the cemetery following the service.
Marvin lived his life by a simple Creed: Walk humbly as a faithful servant of God.
