Obituary

For 93 years we were blessed by the life of Marvin Patrick “Pat” Wells who went to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.

He was born September 3, 1932, in Pender County. He was the son of Floyd Nicholas Wells and Mildred Judson Croom Murray.

Pat is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Wells Johnson, husband Joab “Ab” F. Johnson III, and Marian Wells Adcock; grandchildren, Emma Ruth Tart (husband, Austin), Harrison Joab “Joe” Wells Johnson (fiancée, Ashton Brazell), Hannah Adcock Weir (husband, Justin) and Cody Adcock; great grandchildren, Gray Johnson Tart, Liam, Theodore, and Oliver; niece, Sharon Wells; nephew, Pete Wells; and many extended family and friends.

Pat proudly served a tour of duty in the US Army and was a graduate of Miller-Motte Business College. He was a devoted member of King Solomon Lodge #138 and Pender County Shrine Club. He was also a faithful member of Moores Creek Baptist Church. Pat spent many years farming tobacco, corn and soybeans in Pender County; he loved tilling the soil on a John Deere tractor, tending his crops, and seeing the fruits of his labor harvested year after year.

Pat was the BEST “Papa” and was never too busy to stop whatever he was doing to give his grandchildren and great grandchildren his full attention. What fun times they had together! Pat was a hard worker and always busy with keeping his yard manicured, fixing farm equipment, and his favorite, spending time with family. Pat lived fully, never turned down vanilla ice cream or oatmeal cream pies and knew how to enjoy the simple blessings of life. Pat leaves a strong legacy. He will be truly missed.

The graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2026 at Riverview Memorial Park Mausoleum with the Rev. Roger Barnes conducting the service. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the cemetery.
