Mary Anderson Walker, age 97 of Penderlea passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, November 6,2026.
She was born July 29,1929 in Pender County, North Carolina; the daughter of the late Julian Faison Anderson and Odell Croom Anderson. In addition to her parents Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years Alton Lee Walker; her 12 siblings and her two sons-in-law Travis Chestnutt and Virgil Sullivan.
Mary is survived by her three daughters, Betty Walker Sullivan, Faye Chestnutt and Annette Walker; her loving grandchildren Dawn McCumbee, Brandon Chestnutt and his wife Jennifer; great grandchildren Matthew McCumbee and fiancé Cameron Hite, Emma Chestnutt and Bryleigh Chestnutt. Along with her immediate family Mary leaves behind her special angels Jimmy Maready and Jackie Ezzell; her special friend Dedra Powell; numerous special nieces, nephews and close friends.
Mary was the heart of her family, loving deeply and loved in return by all who knew her. The youngest of 13 children and the last surviving sibling, she witnessed many changes throughout her life. She was known for her famous biscuits at family and church gatherings and enjoyed baseball and basketball, no matter who was playing. Until her health declined, she could often be found tucked into her recliner with a word search puzzle book—a pastime that likely helped keep her mind sharp. Above all, Mary treasured her family. She will be deeply missed and forever loved. A piece of our heart has gained her wings, and she is once again walking hand in hand with the love of her life.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2026, at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel.
The family will receive friends from 1:00p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
