Mary Humbles Harrell DeBose, 91, of Willard, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend died Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Pender Memorial Hospital. She was born August 21, 1922 in Pitt County, the daughter of Edward Ray and Esther Gardner Humbles. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Spencer Richard Harrell and later married Lewis Thomas DeBose, who is also deceased.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Ann H. Wood (Johnny); sons, Richard Harrell (Linda) and Jimmy Harrell; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Betty Humbles Brown and Janice Humbles; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Mary was a faithful member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church and was employed with J. P. Stevens Company for many years.
Not only was Mary a beloved wife and wonderful mother and grandmother, but a generous friend to all who knew her. She brought a great deal of grace, dignity, hope and faith into this world. Her joy of life and Christian spirit will not be forgotten by those around her. What an honor it is that the lively, learned and loving Mary has lived among us.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with Rev. Ralph Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Hopewell Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Casketbearers will be James Harrell, Mark Harrell, Kent Harrell, Johnny Wood, Jr., Mike Humbles and Gene Humbles.
The family will receive friends Wednesday at 12 noon at the funeral home until hour of the service. At other times the family will be at Mary's home.
Memorial gifts may be given to Hopewell Presbyterian Church, C/O Betty Evans, 7195 US Hwy 117 N, Burgaw NC 28425.
