Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Blackburn Woodcock, 77, of Atkinson passed gently from her earthly life to her heavenly home on Sunday, April 22, 2012 with her family by her side.

She was born September 20, 1934 in Duplin County to Herbert and Mary Larkins Blackburn. Also remembered is her beloved husband, Clifton Earl "Woodie" Woodcock and twin sons, infant Woodcock and Clifton Earl Woodcock, Jr., all who Mary is now with in heaven.

Mary is survived by her dear family; her daughter, Mary Ann Woodcock Lee (Elton) of Atkinson; grandson, Clifton Joseph Lee; step-grandchildren, Ken Lee (Angie) and Amanda Walker (Brent); step-great grandchildren, Santanna and Jasmine Walker and Shawn and Andrew Lee; brothers, Herbert Blackburn, Jr. (Frances) of Petersburg, VA, Bobby Blackburn (Louise) of Fayetteville and Julian Blackburn (Ruby) of Yorktown, VA; special friend, Charlotte Kelly; and many extended family and friends all who dearly loved Mary.

Mary was a member of Haw Bluff Baptist Church, Order of the Eastern Star Atkinson Chapter No. 280, Atkinson Bridge Club, and The Sassie Lassies Chapter of the Red Hat Society. Many will remember not only what a good marriage Woodie and Mary shared, but how well they worked together in their businesses in Atkinson, Woodie's Grocery and Woodie's Kitchen.

Mary loved her family and was the best wife, mama, grandma, sister and friend anyone could ask for. She loved life and lived each day to the fullest, thanking God for all her blessings even through the difficult times in her life. Heaven has gained a lovely new angel on this day, our dear Mary. We will all miss Mary's kindness, her gentle laughter, her consideration for others, and most of all her steadfast faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Funeral service will be at 12 noon on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Haw Bluff Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Gasque officiating. Burial will follow in Woodcock Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Keith Langston, Jody Woodcock, David Barnhill, Robert Barnhill, Ken Lee, Matt Barnhill, Thomas Horrell, and Stacey Meders. Honorary bearers will be members of Mary's bridge club and the Red Hat Sassie Lassies.

The family will receive friends at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday in the fellowship hall of Haw Bluff Baptist Church until the hour of the service. At other times the family will be at the home of Mary Woodcock in Atkinson.

Memorial gifts may be given to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington NC 28401, to Haw Bluff Baptist Church, C/O Diane Norris, 24276 NC Hwy 210 E., Kelly NC 28448.
