Mary Virginia Grimes Hatcher, age 85, of Wallace left this earthly life for her eternal rest on Wednesday, September 15,2021 from Brian Center of Wallace.
She was born on July 27, 1936 in Duplin County; the daughter of the late Fletcher and Mary Lou Moore Grimes. Virginia was also preceded in death by her devoted husband of 53 years, Howard Hatcher and son-in-law, Jerry Carroll James..
Virginia attended Oak Grove Free Will Holiness Church.
Surviving are her loving children, Howard Ray Hatcher of Wallace, Jo Ann James Lovette and husband, George of Teachey, Glenda Maready and husband, Durwood of Wallace and Susan Padgett and husband, David of Surf City; special granddaughter, Melissa Sue Quinn and husband, Kevin of Wallace; great granddaughter, Madeline Renee Quinn; brother, Joe Grimes and wife, Dale of Timmonsville, SC; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family that loved Virginia dearly.
Virginia was a loving mother and caring grandmother and sister. She was a simple woman whose greatest joy was her children. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, and African Violets. Being a great cook, Virginia is known for her delicious coconut and chocolate cakes and her out-of-this-world Thanksgiving turkey dressing. She was a quiet, gentle lady with a good heart. Along with her quiet mannerism, Virginia could also be funny and comical and was a pleasure to be around. Virginia will surely be missed but treasured memories will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00a.m. on Friday, September 17, 2021, at Riverview Memorial Park with her son-in-law, Pastor Durwood Maready and Pastor Jan Fucili officiating.
