Obituary

Mary Edna Collins Hufham, 93, of Rocky Point and formerly of Burgaw passed gently from her earthly life on Monday, March 5, 2012 at her home.

She was born February 13, 1919, the daughter of the late James Henry and Mary Ester Blanchard Collins. Also remembered are her husband, Hulan D. Hufham; sisters, Hilda Collins, Isabelle Hoey and Evelyn Cumbee; and brothers, Edwin (Mary's twin), Graham, Charles and Norman Collins, all who preceded Edna in death.

Mary is survived by her son, Donald R. Hufham, who Mary lived with for the past six years, and Terry L Hufham of Burgaw; sister-in-law, Joann Collins of Richmond, VA and many extended family and friends.

Mary was a 1941 graduate of Burgaw High School and attended almost all of their 52 class reunions. Being a devout parishioner of Burgaw Baptist Church Mary taught Sunday school for 25 years, often took care of the nursery and was joyfully willing to help in any capacity at the church that was needed. She was proud of receiving a 25 year Sunday school perfect attendance pin. Mary worked for 25 years with A & P Grocery Stores in Pender, New Hanover and Duplin Counties. Always sharing of her time and talents, Mary served as a Pink Lady at Pender Memorial Hospital for more than 12 years and she began delivering meals to the sick and elderly long before the days of "Meals On Wheels".

Mary was a devoted wife and loving mother, sister and friend. Mary's bright smile, cheerful manner and joyous spirit were a blessing to this world and will be greatly missed.
