Mary John "Johnnie"
Barnhill
Mar 25, 1949 — Dec 24, 2022
Mary John "Johnnie" Pridgen Barnhill, 73, of Atkinson passed from her earthly life, Saturday, December 24, 2022 at her home.
She was born March 25, 1949 in Wilmington, the daughter of John Owen Pridgen and Madeline Moore Pridgen. In addition to her parents Johnnie was preceded in death by an infant brother, John Wayne Pridgen.
Johnnie is survived by her truly devoted husband of 54 years, Donald "Donnie" Barnhill; daughters, Samantha Barnhill Northcott and husband, Jamie and Suzanne Barnhill Price and husband, Chris; grandchildren, Caleb Northcott, Brooke Northcott, Trenton Northcott, Ashlea Price, Ryder Price, Colton Price, and Laken Price; many nephews, nieces including a special niece, Michelle Gleaton (Joe); and numerous extended family members and friends, all who loved Johnnie.
She had a wide variety of affiliations, loves and interests – lifelong member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Red Hatters, Goal Club, and Atkinson bridge club. Johnnie obtained an Associates Degree, taught at community college and retired as a NC State employee.
At the tender age of 19 Johnnie married her sweetheart, Donald "Donnie" Barnhill and she literally traveled the world with him as he was military stationed in Germany where she joined him. They returned back to the states, started a family, and settled in Atkinson. Johnnie was the BEST Mama and later became an extraordinary Grandma to her much loved grandchildren. Johnnie was first and foremost dedicated to her family and also to Donnie's family which she considered her bonus family. Favorite "Johnnie enjoyments" were family time spent on Topsail Island at the campground, cruises, vacations spent with friends/family, and most importantly family gathering. Johnnie's sweet, sweet spirit, gentle smile and caring ways will truly be remembered and missed.
The family will receive friends at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 19685 US Hwy 421, Willard with funeral service beginning at 12:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The Rev. Gardner Eakins will conduct the service.
