Obituary

Mary Margaret Carter Mahoney, age 77, was surrounded by her loved ones as she passed from this earthly life for her eternal rest on Thursday, September 23, 2021 from UNC Lenoir Health Care, Kinston.

She was born in Montgomery County, Maryland  and was the daughter of the late Alfred and May Carter. She was also predeceased by her husband, Presley Franklin Mahoney, Sr.; her daughter, Mary Ann Tyndall; and her brothers, Joe Carter and George Carter.

Surviving is her son, Presley "Sonny" Mahoney, Jr. wife, Brenda, Tina Carter (Louis White), Samuel "Skipper" Chapman, Brenda Chapman, and Donna Chapman; grandchildren, Jonathan Mahoney (Domanic), Felicia Mahoney, Frankie Mahoney, B.J. Padgett (Victoria); Darlene Ballowe (Chris), Walter "Miles" Lewis Bizzell, III and Marrisa Bizzell, great grandchildren, Carmen, Mahoney, Katie Mahoney, Brantley Mahoney, Hunter Mahoney, Georgia Mahoney, Kelley Williams, Michael T Williams, Jr., Kallie Padgett, Landyn Padgett, Brooklynn Padgett, Kaydence Padgett, George-Ann Padgett, Kylie Ballowe, Alessia Carter;  sisters, Wendy Smith, Bonnie Polk, Carolyn Sheffler, Brenda Carter and Evelyn Carter; brothers, Alfred "Jr." Carter and Clayton "Shorty" Carter,  and numerous extended family and friends that loved her dearly.

"Nana", as she was affectionately called, was a one-of-a-kind woman.  She had a heart so full of love and she was always there to help and nurture the ones who needed that extra bit of love. She always made sure that her family was fed and taken care of.  Nana made the best homemade sausage gravy and homemade pizza. She loved her family dearly and was the glue that held the family together.  Nana was a die-hard Redskin fan and loved Tony Stewart.  She enjoyed playing Bingo and the sweepstakes. Nana will surely be missed but treasured memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
