Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Squires Pittman, 86, of the Canetuck Community in Currie passed gently from her earthly life on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Hermitage House.

She was born July 15, 1927 in Columbus County, the daughter of the late Ernest Troy and Nina Sherman Squires. Elizabeth was also preceded in death by her husband, English Alfred Pittman; three grandchildren, Joshua McCabe, Jayden Swinson, and Danielle Phelps; and brother, Theodore Squires.

Elizabeth is survived by her son, Elliott Alfred Pittman of Currie; daughters, June Elizabeth Swinson (Charles) of Currie and Elinda Crowningshield (William, Jr.) of Castle Hayne; grandchildren, Kimberly McCabe, Kevin Swinson, Jennifer Lacy, Amanda O'Dell, Clay Myers, Andy Myers and Ali Crowningshield; nine great grandchildren; sister, Joyce Keene and Shirley Jones; brother, Raeford Squires; and many extended family and friends.

Elizabeth was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She enjoyed the simple things of life, but her greatest joy was family. Elizabeth was a wonderful homemaker and took the best of care of her family. She enjoyed having a big garden with both flowers and vegetables, all of which Elizabeth generously shared with others. Elizabeth will be remembered for her beautiful smile, warm heart and gentle spirit.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Haw Bluff Baptist Church with The Rev. William Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Casket bearers will be Clay Myers, Andy Myers, Cecil McCabe, Ronnie Swinson, Matthew Swinson, and Russell Brown.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
