Nov 8, 1941 — Aug 12, 2022
A kind and energetic soul, a gracious and giving lady, Mary Ruth Pyland, entered her eternal rest on Friday, August 12, 2022 at the age of 80. Her family was with her surrounding her with love.
She was born November 8, 1941 in Burgaw to Ross Tillman Bowden, Sr. and Alice Simmons Bowden. In addition to her parents, Mary Ruth was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Ann Watkins Bowden.
Mary Ruth is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Patrick N. Pyland; sons, Kevin N. Pyland and his wife, Sandy and Brian Pyland and his wife, Virginia; grandchildren; Amber Pyland, Seth Pyland, Cody Jones, Tiffany Corum, and Wade Pyland; brother, Ross Bowden, Jr.; sister, Jean Bowden Sanderson and her husband, Danny; many nieces, nephews and extended family members, all who loved Mary Ruth.
Mary Ruth was a lifelong member of Burgaw Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was the choir secretary for many years. At the age of 50 years, Mary Ruth decided to further her education and chose UNCW where she graduated with a BS degree.
Not only was Mary Ruth a beloved wife, and wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, but a generous friend to all who knew her. Mary Ruth loved cheering her grandchildren on at their sport events as grandchildren were special in her life. Mary Ruth loved "holiday dressing up" and one could find her Halloween, Christmas, St Patrick's Day and more dressed to the nines for the occasion and visiting nursing homes and the elderly. She never met a stranger wherever she went. She brought a great deal of smiles, charm and light into our world. Her joy in life was contagious and will not be forgotten. Mary Ruth's presence in our lives will be forever missed but we find solace in knowing she is at peace and rejoicing with her Almighty Father.
