Mary Wallace Simpson, age 89, of Atkinson passed peacefully from her earthly life on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center.

She was born October 31, 1925 in Pender County, the youngest of eight children of Jacob Lester and Florence Woodcock Wallace. Also remembered is her beloved husband of 42 years, Julius Sidney "Pete" Simpson, four brothers and two sisters, all who preceded Mary in death.

Mary is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Lori Simpson; granddaughters, Paige Sidney Simpson and Samantha Adams; sister, Adelaide Squires; sister-in-law, Annie Mae Wallace; and many nieces and nephews.

She was a long time faithful member of Caswell Presbyterian Church; very active until much to Mary's and her family sadness she developed Alzheimers disease.

Mary loved with all of her heart and her beautiful smile brightened the lives of family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her greatest gift was the joy she brought to family and others through her gentle laughter, sparkle in her eyes and compassionate spirit. Mary and Pete created a life and home filled with love; they always made one feel special and welcomed. Cherished memories of Mary will remain in our hearts.

The family will receive friends 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Caswell Presbyterian Church with memorial service at 12 noon. C.R.E. Randa Scott and The Rev. William Moore will officiate. Inurnment will follow in Atkinson Cemetery.
