Mary Edwards Tartt, age 72, of Leland passed from her earthly life to her heaven home on Friday, June 8, 2012.
She was born October 16, 1939 in Wilmington and was the daughter of the late Warren Edwards and Ruth Simmons Edwards Harker. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Linwood "Sweetie" Tartt, Sr.; her daughters, Carolyn Tartt and Marilyn Wingate; son, James Linwood Tartt, Jr.; sisters, Margaret Butler and Minnie Faircloth; and brothers, George, Charlie, David and Cecil Edwards.
Mary is survived by her loving family, her daughter, Phyllis Tartt McGee of Leland; son, Michael Larry Tartt (Elaina) of Supply; grandchildren, Jamie Lynn Rogers, Lauren St. George (Jimmy), Noelle Wingate, Kelly Tartt, Katie Deanda (Anthony) and R. J. Wingate; seven great grandchildren; brother, Thomas Edwards (Faye) of Cooly Dam, WA; sisters, Doris Long (Barden) of Wilmington, Ellen Futrell of Okeechobee, FL and Jackie Ward (Frank) of Wilson; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary loved and served her Lord and was a member of Wrightsville Avenue Church of God.
Above all Mary loved her family and her grandchildren were the light of her life. She would often pray "Lord, I want to be sweet" and sweet she was. Mary's love for the Lord and unwavering personal commitment to live her life by His Word was evident to all who knew her. She was a mother, grandmother, sister, confidant and friend to every life she touched. She leaves her loving family to cherish her memory.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 11, 2012 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Bradley Creek Chapel, Wilmington, with the Rev. Dean Walker and the Rev. Ray Faircloth officiating. Burial will follow in Seagate Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Jamie Rogers, Grant Tart, Allen Bowden, Danny Bowden, Jimmy St. George, Anthony Deanda and R. J. Wingate.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home of her sister, Doris Long in Wilmington.
