Mavis Dickens
Kelly
February 26, 2011
Mavis Dickens Kelly, 87, of Atkinson passed from this earth to her eternal rest on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at her home with family by her side.
She was born April 17, 1923 in Pender County to William Thomas and Fannie Woodcock Dickens. In addition to her parents, Mavis was preceded in death by her husband, Troy William Kelly, Sr.; son, Troy W. Kelly, Jr.; sisters, Agnes Wilson and Grey Anders and brothers, W. T. Dickens and Morris Dickens.
Mavis is survived by her beloved family, her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Rick Cuevas of Willow Springs; daughter-in-law, Wanda N. Kelly of Atkinson and her family; three nephews; her extended family and many friends.
Mavis was quite a unique lady who loved and served her Lord, her family and friends. Being very plain spoken, one always knew where you stood with Mavis. She could relate to any generation and had friends of all ages. She enjoyed the simple things in life, no clothes dryer for Mavis! She treasured her family above all else. Mavis enjoyed making baskets, gospel music, ceramics, her chair at Atkinson (Walkers) Minute Mart. One of her many joys in life was visiting "the old people", who were often much younger than Mavis. Mavis' family is grateful to God for her life, for your friendship and for your kindness and prayers.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 28, 2011 at Atkinson Baptist Church with the Rev. Douglas Warnock, the Rev. William Moore and the Rev. Steve Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Atkinson Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall beginning at 1:00 p.m. until time of the service.
Casketbearers will be Stan Woodcock, Jack Turner, Ross Floyd, Ed Miller, Jerry Jacobs, and Ricky Rhyne.
Mavis loved flowers and they are welcomed. Much appreciated donations may be given in her memory to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401 or to Atkinson Cemetery Fund, C/O Sara Lanier, 6060 Point Caswell Rd., Atkinson, NC 28421.
