Obituary

Mavis Flynn Squires, 83, of Kelly was granted her angel wings on Thursday, July 25, 2013. Mavis was at home surrounded by family.

She was born May 11, 1930 in Pender County, the daughter of the late Thomas Lee and Bessie Applewhite Flynn. Flynn; and sisters, Allene Moore, Jannie Bullard, Annie Bell Squires Carroll and Frances Norris.

Mavis is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Davis and husband, Dennis of Kelly; grandsons, Glenn and Jeffery Davis of Wilmington; granddaughter, Shannon Davis of Kelly; great grandchildren, Cassi Margus and Dakota Davis; sister, Estelle Sykes of Riegelwood; and many nieces and nephews.

Mavis was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed the simple things of life, but most of all cherished her family. Mavis created a home filled with joy, love, laughter and good cooking. Favorites of Mavis were gardening, fishing and traveling with family and her niece, Mary Jacobs. Faith in the Lord has sustained Mavis and her family all of their lives, but especially has been a focal point during Mavis' illness. Mavis' family is grateful to God for her life and for your every kindness and prayers.
