Obituary

Mazie Bowen Wooten, age 97, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025 at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 4, 1927, in Wilmington, NC to William Franklin Bowen and Elzora Hodge Bowen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Percy McDonald Wooten, who died in August of 1959; brother, William F. Bowen, Jr.; and sister, Lillian B. Fritts.

Mazie was a member of First Baptist Church. She was a devoted Christian woman who loved the Lord. She cherished her four daughters whom she referred to as "the girls". She loved and appreciated her sons-in-law. Mazie adored all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. There was always "lots of love, laughter, and food" at family gatherings. She was a special and caring mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister.

Mazie is survived by her daughters, Linda Collins (Richard), Emily Burch (Frank), Hilda Debnam (Jim), and Henrietta Pedzwater (Joe). She also leaves behind grandchildren, Amy Smith (Mike), Jennifer Pair (Tommy), Jessica Hansley (Bill), Julie Hoover (Darren), Mason Pedzwater (Ashley), Kevin Pedzwater, and Marcy Pedzwater (Juan); great grandchildren Zach Smith, Abby Smith, Tyler Hansley, Sidney Hansley, Harrison Pair, Emily Pair, Katherine Pair, Luke Hoover, and Jack Pedzwater; and her sister, Catherine Bowen Moss of Blacksburg, S.C.

The graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2025 at Riverview Memorial Park, 9332 US Hwy 117 N, Watha/Willard, NC 28478. The Rev. Dr. Jim Baldwin will conduct the service.   The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 411 Market Street, Wilmington, NC 28401.
