McRay Cottle, 78, of Teachey, North Carolina passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at his home.
He was born on May 31, 1948 in Duplin County; the son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Virginia Brown Cottle.
Mac, as he was affectionately called, proudly served in the United States Army and was a high school technology and drafting teacher who taught many students in North Carolina throughout the years.
Surviving is his children Rob Cottle of Rose Hill, Alix Cottle and husband Tim Peterson of Clinton, NC aznd Blake Cottle and wife Jennifer of Teachey; grandchildren Mason Cottle and wife Raegan, Hayden Cottle Cooper and husband Logan, Jacob Byrd and wife Alex, Lauren Byrd and Kayla Cottle; great-grandchildren Mary Caitlin Byrd, Kolton Zurcher, Summit Zurcher and Lainey Zurcher; sister Janice Cottle Williams of Teachey and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Mac was a graduate of Wallace-Rose Hill High School. After high school he attended Florida State University where he graduated with a Master's degree and began his teaching career. He taught at numerous schools and was at Lakewood High School for 10 years. Mac loved tinkering on old cars and anything else he could find. He was a homebody who kept mostly to himself since he left his teaching career. Mac loved his family and was proud of each of them. He will surely be missed but will never be forgotten.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at Teachey Baptist Church with Pastor Craig Richardson officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will follow the funeral service at Duplin Memorial Gardens, Teachey, NC.
