Melissa Anne DuPalevich Cowan, 39, passed away peacefully on February 24th in Boston, Massachusetts.

Melissa was born in Wilmington, NC on July 5th, 1974, grew up in Burgaw, NC and had enjoyed living for the last 7 years in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by her Papa, Fred Rooks and Grandma Dupie, Mabel Dupalevich.

Melissa is survived by her mother, Rebecca "Becky" Rooks Hughes (Mike) and father, Ronnie Dupalevich (Carol); sister and best friend, Natasha Lee and niece, Courtney; sisters, LeAnna, Meredith and Ashley; grandmother, Anne Rooks; and a large circle of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and a special person in her life, Ed Tuzik.

Melissa's family is grateful to God for her life and for your concerns, kindness and prayers. May our Lord give us peace and walk with us, Melissa's family and friends, in the days and weeks to come.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 1st at 11:00 a.m. at Watha United Methodist Church, 160 Camp Kirkwood Rd, Watha, NC.

Her cousin & friend, Kay, was a very special person in her life and she would want any memorial gifts to be made to the Domestic Violence Shelter and Services, PO Box 1555, Wilmington, NC 28402.
