Michael Allen Dowdy, age 48, and his wife, Janet "Jan" Dowdy of Burgaw died unexpectedly Sunday, October 10, 2010 in Pender County.

He was born September 13, 1962 in Munich, Germany, the son of Margaret A. Dowdy Dugan of Sedalia, Missouri and the late Gerald Allen Dowdy.

Surviving in addition to Michael's mother are his step-son, Gary Lanier, Jr. of Rocky Point; sisters, Kay B. Sincox of St. Louis, MO, Jill M. Serio of Indianapolis, IN and Justin L. Morgan of Sedalia, MO; three nieces; three nephews and many friends who loved Mike dearly.

Michael served his country proudly in the US Army. He was a faithful member of Lighthouse Worship Center and loved all of church family dearly.

Mike was a devoted husband,son and brother who loved all of his family. His strong Christian faith and willingness to help others will always be remembered. Along with his wife, Jan, Mike brought joy into the lives of others. Cherished memories of Mike will forever remain in our hearts.

Funeral service for Mike and Jan will be at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Lighthouse Worship Center, 7560 US Hwy 117 S, Rocky Point with The Rev. Jeff Daw officiating. Following the service the family will receive friends at the church until 8:00 p.m.

A graveside service for Mike and Jan will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Riverview Memorial Park. Casketbearers will be William Lawson, Wayne Tuell, Rae Horrell, Mark Price, Ricky Laughter and Paul Johnson.
