Michael Brooks Helms, age 77, passed peacefully from his earthly life Friday, May 24, 2024 with his beloved wife, Elaine, at his bedside.

He was born December 4, 1946 in Sanford, the son of Roy Alexander Helms and Ruth Kelly Helms. In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his son, Michael "Little Mike" Brooks Helms II on May 21, 2024; and his brother, Roy A. Helms, Jr.

Michael is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mildred Elaine Helms; and many extended family and friends.

He served his country proudly in the US Marine Corps, earning the rank of Sergeant. He retired after working 25 years with Kosa on US Hwy 421, Wilmington.

Mike, Little Mike and Elaine all loved spending time at the campground at Topsail Beach where Mike enjoyed both net and surf fishing. They also enjoyed boat rides and fishing in the inland water way at Topsail. In years past Mike was a proficient golfer. Most of all Mike loved his family and was a wonderful husband, daddy, and loyal friend to many.
