Obituary

Mildred Dora Orr, age 91, of Wilmington and formerly of Montague Community in Pender County, died peacefully on Friday, April 27, 2012 at NorthChase Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Orr was born July 10, 1920 in Pender County. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, J. W. Orr, Jr.; daughter, Carolyn Orr Blake; son-in-law, Louis Blake; and grandson, Michael Jackson.

Mildred was steadfast in her faith and was a lifetime member of Myrtle Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church in Montague, NC. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Mildred exemplified grace and the title of homemaker. She loved to cook, sew, read, garden, and study the word of God. She truly made her home loving, inviting and a place of refuge.

Mildred is survived by her daughter, Peggy Orr Armstrong and husband, Buzz of Wilmington; grandchildren, Cheryl Canady (Paul), Lisa Wells (Whren), Karen Legates (Mike), Shep Richardson, Jr., (Rhonda) and April Brown (Jamie); and great grandchildren, JonMichael, Jay, Mason, Kyle, Ryan, Jensen, Kaylee, Kamryn, Reed, Brodie, and Colby.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with Pastor Jimmie Mintz officiating. Burial will follow in Riley's Creek Memorial Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Shep Richardson, Jr., Paul Canady, Kyle Legates, Ryan Legates, Jay Peedin, Jamie Kornegay and Mike Dowless.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw and at other times will be at the home of Peggy and Buzz Armstrong.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of NorthChase Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, especially Leslie, ShawnaLisa, and Jackie and Lower Cape Fear Hospice staff, especially Yolanda Faulkner, Carrie Nixon, Chaplain Sweetie Francis, and Shawn Johnson, RN.
