Obituary

Milton Jennings Humphrey, Jr., age 82, of Burgaw passed peacefully Thursday, November 30, 2023 in Wilmington.

He was born July 24, 1941 in Wilmington, the son of the late Milton Jennings Humphrey, Sr. and Julia Mae Humphrey Harrison.

Jennings is survived by his beloved family; his wife of 62 happy years, Charlotte Richardson Humphrey; son, Milton Jennings "Jay" Humphrey III and wife, Kim and their children, Morgan and Nate Williams and their children Battle, Knox, Canon and Evie June, and Milton Jennings "Jayson" Humphrey IV (Mary Kate) and their children Joshua, Mila Ruth, Milton Jennings V, and Joy Humphrey; daughter, Gina Humphrey Marasco and husband, Robert, and their son, Seth Cawthern (Angelia), and their children, Arleigh Raye and Allie Kaye Cawthern; sister, Julie Horrell Burns; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, CDR FN Richardson (retired), Georgia Lippard Bell, Mildred Guess, Virginia Highsmith (Hugh), Shepard Richardson (Donna), Herbert Richardson (Louema), Doug Richardson, and Don Richardson; numerous adoring nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Jennings served his country honorably in the US Army. He was a graduate of NC State University where he received a degree in agriculture and used his knowledge in his life career of farming. Jennings was truly a steward of the land.

Jennings Humphrey, also famously known as "Porky Pig," was a lover of the outdoors, hunting and fishing, and all things ag but was especially known for his innovative work in the hog farming industry.

Jennings didn't know a stranger and would give the shirt off of his back to anyone who needed it. He enjoyed his little Debbies, old westerns, feeding birds, reading and writing, and could spend hours in the woods and always find his way back home with his "internal compass."

Jennings was a giant gentleman and loved to smile and laugh and to be with his family and friends, and mostly, he loved to live his life for Jesus.

Jennings leaves behind a big hole in all of our hearts, but especially his beautiful wife, whom he spent 62 years with. His family and friends appreciate the legacy he's leaving behind, and he will be greatly missed.
