Obituary

Darel Williams Wooten, age 88, of Maple Hill passed from her earthly life on Friday, March 2, 2012 at Woodbury Wellness Center.

She was born February 21, 1924 in Duplin County, the daughter of the late Daniel Thomas and Laura Blizzard Williams. Also remembered is her beloved husband of 58 years, Arthur Thomas Wooten; sister, Mary Davis Albertson and brothers, Surry Williams and Aaron Williams, all who preceded Darel Mae in death.

Darel is survived by her daughter, Jean W. Talbert (Jack) of Hampstead; grandchildren, Erica W. Talbert and Trent A. Talbert both of Hampstead and Andy D. Talbert (Kelly) of Vermont; great grandchildren, Cole Talbert, Gracie Talbert, Isaac Talbert, Jack Talbert and Healy Talbert; brother, Durwood Williams (Peggy) of Chinquapin and sister-in-law, Pauline Williams of Beulaville.

In 1941 Darel Mae graduated from Chinquapin High School where she excelled in playing basketball. During WW II Darel Mae worked for the FBI in Washington, DC. After marrying Arthur, she worked side by side with him on their turkey farm in Maple Hill for many years. She was a gracious Southern lady who loved and cared for her family. Some of her favorite pastimes were working in her vegetable garden and shopping. Darel Mae was a faithful member of Maple Hill Presbyterian Church. Cherished memories of Darel Mae will forever remain in our hearts.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2012 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with C.L.P. Richard Wurtzel officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park. Casketbearers will be Stacy Wooten, Sandy Wooten, Surry Ray Williams, Randy Williams, LeGrand Lanier, and Jerry Bowman.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6:00 p.m. Saturday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw and at other times will be at the home of Jean and Jack Talbert in Hampstead.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given to Maple Hill Presbyterian Church, C/O William Marshburn, 14171 NC Hwy 53 E, Maple Hill NC 28454 or to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physician Dr., Wilmington NC 28401.
