Obituary

Muriel Gurganus Rivenbark, 80, of Burgaw and formerly of Atkinson was granted her angel wings on Sunday, August 11, 2013. She was born November 18, 1932 in Pender County, the daughter of the late Leon and Hallie Newton Gurganus Rivenbark. Remembered is her beloved husband, Joseph Chester Rivenbark; siblings, Lila Bass, Larry and David Gurganus, all who preceded Muriel in death.

She is survived by her daughters, Victoria R. "Vicki" Worrell (Robert) and Candice "Candy" Williams (Bobby); grandchildren, Crystal Pace Teel (Glen), Rhiannon Pace Andrews (David), Joseph Williams (Jeanie) and Michael Williams; great grandchildren, Brett Teel, Robin Teel and Alex Williams; step-brother, Ray Rivenbark (Edna Rae); and many extended family and friends that dearly loved Muriel.

For many years Muriel was a dedicated member of Caswell Presbyterian Church in Atkinson and most recently enjoyed the fellowship of her church family at Forest Hills Baptist Church in Burgaw. Muriel's Christian faith shined brightly through out her life as she always loved and shared with all of her being. She served as Atkinson Town Clerk for a number of years. Muriel's most cherished accomplishment in life was being a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Muriel leaves a legacy for us today of love, hope, faith, and compassion.
