Myron Cecil Futch, Jr., age 71, of Calhoun, Georgia and formerly of Rocky Point, North Carolina died Saturday, October 24, 2009 at his home in Rocky Point.
He was born October 21, 1938 in Pender County to the late Louelle Herndon and Myron Cecil Futch, Sr. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Sinclair and Quincy Futch.
Surviving are his loving wife of 50 years Phyllis Jo Justice Futch; children, Michael Cecil Futch of Raleigh, Myra Charisse Futch Brookshire and Matthew Herndon Futch (Cindy) both of Calhoun, Georgia; nine grandchildren, Michael Winter Futch, Myra Elizabeth Carnes (Matt), William Lewis Harper, Cody Daniel Harper, Bryan Taylor Brookshire, Zachary Tyler Futch, Alyssa Katherine Futch, Joshua Chadwick Futch and Elijah Justice Futch; two great-grandchildren, Gracie Carnes and Josie Carnes; special nephew, David Futch (Debbie); and special nieces, Diane Reese (Eddie) and Denise Ward.
Mr. Futch was a graduate of Long Creek High School and Miller-Motte Business College. He served his country honorably in the US Army.
Cecil was a devoted husband, loving father and granddaddy and faithful son. He was a man of great faith who set an example to his family by the Christian life he lived and was always the solid rock for his family. Remembered are his zest for life, great sense of humor, loyalty to his fellowman and his steadfast faith. There was no challenge in life too great for Cecil. He was an avid reader, especially enjoying history, war chronicles, and genealogy. Being a keen deer hunter he loved being out doors in God's beautiful world. Cecil and Phyllis spent many happy times together collecting all kinds of things. He was a professional banana pudding eater, his favorite dessert! Cecil will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at Riley's Creek Baptist Church in the Long Creek Community of Rocky Point. Prior to the funeral service the family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. in the church Fellowship Hall.
Interment will follow in the Riley's Creek Memorial Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held in Calhoun, Georgia at a later date.
