Myrtle Byrd Long, 83, of Rocky Point passed gently from her earthly life on Friday, April 21, 2017 at NorthChase Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born November 5, 1933 in Columbus County, the daughter of the late Stella Byrd Holly.

Myrtle leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband of 66 years, James Thomas Long; son, Danny Long (Janet); grandchildren, Kevin Fortune and Kyle Fortune (Amy); and great grandchildren, Rory and Wesley Fortune.

Myrtle was a loving and kind wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who loved the Lord and lived her life accordingly. She was a faithful member of Gateway Community Church. In years past, Myrtle enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, knitting and crocheting. Most important in Myrtle's life was family with her great grandchildren, Rory and Wesley being shining lights in her life. Myrtle's radiant smile and sweet, sweet spirit will be remembered.

The family will receive friends at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with service following at 12:00 p.m. The Rev. Ted Mercer will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
