Nancy Hardin Sykes, age 75, of Riegelwood passed from her earthly life Monday, March 11, 2024 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington.

She was born August 25, 1948 in Roberson County, the daughter of Ford Hardin and Carolyn Ruth Ivey Hardin. In addition to her parents Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Sykes.

Nancy is survived by her children, Cecil Ray Squires (Sheila), Suzanne Sykes, Donna Barnes (Kenny), and James D. Sykes; grandchildren, Brooke Davis, Kayla Squires, Victoria Davis, Josh Barnes, Kenny Barnes, Jr., Cora Barnes, Owen Shields, and Brin Craft; seventeen great grandchildren; and brother, Tony Hardin; many extended family members and friends.

Most important in Nancy's life was her dear family, especially her grandchildren who brought her great joy. In years past she enjoyed gardening, and she was proficient in canning beets, making pickles, and she could shell a bushel of peas in no time. For enjoyment Nancy loved to read. She was a lady of many talents, an excellent seamstress and she for many years took care of the elderly. Nancy was loved and will truly be missed.

A graveside funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2024 Oleander Memorial Gardens with Rev. Kenny Barnes conducting the service. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.
