Nellie Kay Blizzard, 63, of Castle Hayne passed peacefully from this earth to her heavenly home on Monday, May 30, 2011 at the home of her sister, Sarah Bonham in Castle Hayne.

She was born April 4, 1948 in Pender County and was the daughter of the late Willie Edmond and Sarah Howard Blizzard. She was preceded in death by one sister; three brothers; and two infant sons.

Nellie is survived by her daughter, Mary Maggard (Kevin) of Bolivia; son, Melvin Blizzard of Burgaw; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Bleggi (Al) of Jacksonville and Sarah Bonham (Bob) of Castle Hayne; and many nieces and nephews.

She was a devoted member of Castle Hayne Baptist Church. Her faith in God, strength and courage carried her through her battle with cancer and onto her eternal rest.

Nellie loved her family beyond measure. She was a caregiver all of her working life with a gentle spirit and a heart of gold. For pleasure Nellie enjoyed making dolls and beaded crafts. She was an expert seamstress. Her sweet spirit, gentle smile, kind manner and steadfast faith in her Lord and Savior will always be remembered.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with The Rev. Billy Fowler officiating. Burial will follow in Burgaw Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home on Thursday and at other times will be at the home of Sarah Bonham.
