Newman Roscoe Parker, Jr., age 66, passed from his earthly life Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born August 24, 1954 in Burgaw, the son of the late Newman Roscoe Parker, Sr. and Virginia Jones Parker.

Sonny is survived by his beloved family: his sons, Nicolas Parker and Jason Leary (fiancée, Dulsey Wilson); daughter, Lillian "Lilly" Parker; step-son, Josh Parker (Ana); grandchildren, Michael Leary, Ayden Parker, Miles Parker, and Katie Parker; and many friends, too numerous to count.

For many years Sonny Parker owned and operated Sonny's Barbeque where he cooked and served the best barbeque and hushpuppies along with all the trimmings. At one time or another most everyone has eaten Sonny's homemade sausage, barbeque pork and/or catered meals. Sonny was famous!!

Sonny celebrated his life to the upmost fullness. He was continuously living life with strength beyond measure.   Sonny always made the most of any situation that life brought his way. With his health issues he always pressed onward and kept working until the very end. He was generous not only to his family, but to many folks. Sonny was an outstanding daddy and granddaddy; most important in his life was family. Sonny loved and was loved.

The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Burgaw Baptist Church Fellowship Hall with funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow in Walker Cemetery.
