Nolia Mintz Smith (Nanny), 80, of Leland left her earthly home on Friday, March 6th, to begin her new life in her heavenly home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a precious mother and loving grandmother and great grandmother. Although she will be greatly missed and the pain seems unbearable, we...her family...are happy she is now at peace at her eternal home.

Nolia was a charter member of Community Chapel Baptist Church and donated the land upon which the church was built. She was a hard-working lady that rarely complained even though her illness was taking a painful toll on her body.

Nolia Mintz Smith was born June 11, 1934 in Brunswick County, NC, to Jefferson Pierce Mintz and Mary Ganey Mintz. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Grant Lee Smith; sisters, Tinnie, Alice, Elma (Jim), Mildred and Repsie; and brothers, Welton (Brownie) and Tom. She is survived by daughter Magdalene (Maggie) Davis and husband, Alton (Buddy), and daughter Pauline (Sissy) Courtney and husband, Mike; grandsons, Jeffrey Phillip Davis and wife, Melody, Michael Bond Courtney, Jr., and Paul Grant Courtney and wife, Kelly; and great grandchildren, Alexandria L. Davis, Murray Grant Davis, Paul Grant Courtney II, Noah Grant Courtney and Gillian R. Courtney. She is also survived by her special loyal canine friend, Muffin.

Funeral services will be held at Community Chapel Baptist Church on Malmo Loop Road in Leland on Sunday, March 8th, at 3:00 pm with the Rev. R. E. Lee officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Interment will follow in the Mintz Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Smith, Kenny Smith, David Smith, David Barnhill, Gil Dunnagan, Jerry Delp, Sr.

The family would like to thank all the friends and family that gave support through visitation, prayers and gifts of food during the illness of our precious "Nanny" as well as the Lower Cape Fear Hospice for their tender, loving and supportive care especially her outstanding nurse, Melissa.
